American Splendor (2003)
2:30 pm
Byrd Theatre
Admission $7
Cynical graphic-author Harvey Pekar, best known for the world-weary stories of his own dreary life, i.e. American Splendor, is wonderfully and sympathetically played by actor Paul Giamatti (Sideways). Mr. Giamatti is currently on location in Virginia starring as John Adams for a television mini-series and this screening is dedicated to him! Directors/writers Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini successfully fuse dramatizations of the author's life with footage of Pekar and his family in a manner that complements and illuminates and actor Giamatti is at the top of his craft as Pekar's everyman. Emphatically more than just of cult interest, Harvey Pekar's world is the "sad city of the imagination which is the whole modern world."
Approximate running time 100 minutes. |
