"Derrida"
(2002, color, 90 min.)
7:30 p.m., University of Richmond, Jepson Hall 118, Free Admission
Kirby
Dick and Amy Ziering Kofman's documentary on the late Jacques
Derrida explores the overlapping zones between the life and
thought of a major thinker as he speaks of time, forgiveness,
the body and deconstruction. The filmmakers' surprisingly
light and candid approach is subtly balanced by the charming
host/subject, who can't resist analyzing himself through their
camera-eyes. Kenneth Turan, L.A. Times, called it "the
cinematic equivalent of a mind-expanding drug." The audience
is invited to stay for a discussion after the film led by
Dr. Gary Shapiro, Department of Philosophy, University of
Richmond. Co-sponsored by the Department of Philosophy and
the Media Resource Center of Boatwright Library, University
of Richmond.
