Location Scouting the Old Dominion
2:30 p.m., Plant Zero Art Center, Admission Free

Virginia Film Office Locations Manager Andrew "Andy" Edmunds takes us on a slide tour of Virginia film production locations complete with insider anecdotes. More than what's available and what isn't, setting is a key element in divulging time, place, and often character. Virginia's wide geographic range offers plenty of possibilities. Edmunds was also a 2003 JRFF participant.
Edmunds was interviewed for a recent article in Richmond's City Edition titled,
Lights...Camera...Richmond: What Virginia's $174 Million Film Industry Means to our Town (see article - pdf) Reprinted with permission.

Film Reviewing for Popular Media
4 p.m., Plant Zero Art Center, Admission Free

The art of film reviewing is both a sensibility and journalistic endeavor cultivated by thousands of film experiences and the studied ability to articulate criticism and praise. Both purveyors and mediators of popular taste, critics have been relegated to a lonely but integral role in the mechanism that is commercial cinema exhibition. But what precisely is their role as movie journalists? What are the expectations of their readers? What expectations might the reviewer have? Join moderator Dr. Irby Brown, Professor Emeritus, University of Richmond, and film critics Maribeth Brewster, Channel 12 and formerly Style Weekly, Dan Neman, Richmond Times-Dispatch, and Dr. Duane Byrge, Virginia State University and The Hollywood Reporter.
