presents:
Ms. Films from North Carolina
Why Ms. Films? The number of woman-made films shown in movie
theaters, film festivals and on TV is significantly less than
that of men. Ms. Films is a non-profit, all volunteer-run
organization that attempts to address this gap with a multi-faceted
approach. With so few avenues of distribution for women filmmakers
and artists who choose to work in the short format, the organization
provides a showcase for women filmmakers to exhibit their
work. Ms. Films presents an annual festival; publishes The
Down, Dirty & DIY Guide to Film and Video; and offers
workshops and panels to help get women of all ages started
to give them the tools and resources to make their
own movies. For more information visit www.msfilms.org.
Here Ms. Films presents a selection of some of their favorite
films and videos, including three from Virginia filmmakers
Pat Doyen, Alexandria Searls and Joice Ozaki all of
whom were featured in Ms. Films 2004 festival. Ms. Films
organizer Niku Arbabi will moderate a post-screening panel
discussion with Pat, Alex and Joice. Firehouse
Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Admission $3.
