"ROCKIN' BAGHDAD"
Imagine you live in a world where war becomes entertainment,
where rock 'n' roll is a kind of patriotism and TV news
is a sucker’s carnival of special effects and sizzling
beats. What? Yes, that’s right, that’s the same
world where we already reside. Bob Paris’ video installation
"Rockin’ Baghdad" scrutinizes the wartime
promotional machine of television news during the 2003
war in Iraq – as best exemplified by the mighty FOX
News Channel – and exposes it’s essential engine
and ethos. And you can dance to it! But the media carnival
is not limited to America. Rockin’ Baghdad also projects
unedited wartime footage from Iraqi television, displaying
its own brash fusion of news, propaganda and popular entertainment.
