JURIED COMPETITION
This year the James River Film Festival’s nationwide juried competition of short film and animation works changes from a biennial to an annual event. Winning entries will be shown at a public screening during the Festival. Prizes include cash awards up to $2,000 plus film stock and services. Prizes are awarded by the jurors at their discretion. Entry deadline is February 13, 2004.

Eligibility
The competition is open to students and independent filmmakers with original works in any style or genre: experimental, narrative, documentary, animation, etc. We accept all formats (film, video, DV, etc.) Submissions are not divided into categories as each entry is judged on its own merits. The entry must be under 30 minutes and not previously entered in the Festival.

Only works completed after January 1, 2002 are eligible. Films or videos using non-licensed copyrighted works or literary properties without permission are not eligible. Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form and a $25.00 fee.

Judging
Entries will be judged by a select jury of local filmmakers, video artists, professionals and educators. All entries will be viewed twice. Festival jurors will then make final selections and award cash prizes.
