JURIED COMPETITION
This year the James River Film Festival is hosting its biennial, nationwide
juried competition of short film and animation works. Winning entries
will be shown at a public screening during the festival. Prizes include
cash awards totaling $2,000. Prizes are awarded by the jurors at their
discretion.
Eligibility
The competition is open to original works by both students and independent
filmmakers, in any style or genre: experimental, narrative, documentary,
animation or other. There will be no categories as each entry will be
judged on its own merits.
Educational or commercial
entries are not as competitive. The entry must be under 30 minutes and
not previously entered in the festival, All entries completed after January
1, 1999 are eligible. Films or videos using non-licensed copyrighted works
or literary properties without permission are not eligible. Each entry
must be accompanied by an entry form and a $25.00 entry fee.
Judging
Entries will be judged by a select jury of local filmmakers, video artists,
professionals and faculty. All entries will be viewed twice. Festival
jurors will then make the final selections and award the cash prizes.
