In
May, Kodak announced plans to discontinue production of the
venerable Kodachrome 40 Super 8 movie film. Media arts organizations
and film enthusiasts worldwide are reacting to the news with
petitions, protests and events to bid farewell to a color
film favorite. At RMIC, we elected to express our sentiments
to the public and Kodak by dedicating the September FLICKER
program to the brilliant career of Kodachrome 40 Super 8.
We
want your films
We will be screening all-Kodachrome short films for this event
and are soliciting your K40 gems for our program.
Here's
how you can help us pay tribute:
- Make
a movie with K40 Super 8 film - send it off for processing,
sign up to screen it, (edit it in or outside the camera)
and bring the reel with you to the event on September 29.
Not sure how? Let us know and we'll help you get started.
- Have
a movie already? If you want your favorite Kodachrome
film to have a place in our tribute, we would love to screen
it.
- Celebrate
with us as a member of the audience - just come and
be dazzled.
- Sign
a petition urging Kodak to reconsider its decision -
if you haven't already (see link, right)
We'll
also be screening a few classics that demonstrate K40's unique
qualities, history, and place in time and culture.
Films
must be 15 minutes in length or less and have been shot on
Kodachrome film stock. Transfers to video, miniDV and DVD
are acceptable.
To
make sure your Kodachrome gem gets a place in the program,
send your request by September 1, 2005 to jere@rmicweb.org
or call (804) 232-RMIC (7642). In addition to your name and
how to contact you, we'll want to know the title of your film,
the running time, the projection medium and your requirements
for providing sound accompaniment (optional).
Deadline
for signing up to screen your film is Thursday, September
1, 2005.
