The
4th annual
"Attack of the 50-Ft. Reels"
Here's
how the 50-Ft. Reels Event Works:
The first 25 people to send in a check for $30 receive one
50-ft. roll of Super 8 film (that's 3 minutes and 20 seconds
of moving images running at 18 frames per second) and the
challenge of making a movie edited entirely in the camera.
The $30 fee covers the cost of film and processing.
Filmmakers
return their cartridge of exposed film. Flicker sends off
the films for processing and prepares them for screening.
The filmmakers get to see their films for the first time on
the night of the show.

It's a Krulik, Krulik World: The Films of Jeff Krulik
Starring Jeff, in person!
Shockoe Bottom Arts Center,
8:00
pm
2001 E. Grace St., Richmond
Admission $5.
Best known
for the notorious Heavy Metal Parking Lot, Washington DC-based
filmmaker Jeff Krulik produces documentaries dealing with
arcane pop culture. His subjects are sometimes weird, sometimes
crazy and always funny. Whether it's a movie star driving
a bus or one man's immense, archived pornography collection,
Krulik's films seem to capture that space where the banal
and the outrageous meet.

Jeff Krulik will be on hand to present and discuss a program
of short films including:
Heavy Metal Parking Lot (1986)
Neil Diamond Parking Lot (1997)
Harry Potter Parking Lot (2000)
Ernest Borgnine on the Bus (1997)
I Created Lancelot Link (1999)
Obsessed With Jews (2000) and more! |
Jeff Krulik
is a prolific artist who has shown his work all over the world.
He has been involved in the film and television industry since
the early '80s, including production, promotion and programming.
He spent five years developing and researching programs for
Discovery Channel and the Learning Channel. Since May 1995,
he's been an independent freelance producer. Currently, he's
completing the historical/hysterical documentary Hitler's
Hat.

Selections
A-Z from the
"Essential Cinema"
(as
designated by Anthology Film Archives in New York)
Firehouse Theatre, 8:00
pm
1609 W. Broad St., Richmond
Admission $5.
Laboring
long in obscurity and forging paths oft times in isolation,
makers of the avant-garde, alternative, experimental or living
cinema amassed a catalogue to rival the studios. In response,
Anthology Film Archives, founded in 1970, established its
program known as the Essential
Cinema Repertory Collection to
define the art of film in terms of selected works which indicate
its essences and parameters.
RMIC began
with A in the fall of 2001 and we intend to work our way to
Z and begin again. With more than 250 classic films from 1900
to the mid-1970s, this could take years so get the largest
popcorn you can find.
John
Mhiripiri, Anthology Film Archives administrative director
and exhibitions coordinator, will introduce the program and
answer questions afterward.
